Description

This is an excellent opportunity for an Associate Director, Senior Manager, or experienced Transport Economist to lead economic analysis and strategic planning for major infrastructure projects while helping grow the Transport Economics practice within a global Big 4 consulting firm.

This Director of Transport Economics role can be based in Johannesburg (first choice), Cape Town, or Durban.

The CTC for this Director of Transport Economics role is up to R2.5 million per year.

THE ROLE

As the Director of Transport Economics, you will be responsible for leading the economic analysis and strategic planning for transport-related infrastructure projects (rail, roads, municipal developments, etc.). You will develop and expand departmental capabilities in project evaluation, prioritisation, business case development, cost-benefit analysis, wider economic benefit analysis, and economic strategy.

You will lead expert teams delivering complex engagements while acting as the lead consulting SME within the business on the economic viability and impact of transport infrastructure projects. This role also involves providing strategic advisory to project teams and clients, as well as supporting business development, thought leadership, and client engagement to secure new infrastructure opportunities.

REQUIREMENTS

Master’s degree in Economics, Transport Economics, Engineering, or a related field (PhD beneficial)

15+ years’ experience in transport economics within infrastructure environments (rail, roads, public transport, urban development)

Background working within consulting, infrastructure advisory, or large infrastructure programmes.

Proven experience in infrastructure project evaluation, business case development, and cost-benefit analysis for large-scale transport projects.

Experience advising on the economic viability and strategic planning of transport infrastructure investments, ideally within complex stakeholder environments (government, municipalities, investors)
