This is an opportunity to join one of the Big 4 consulting firms as a Director, building out the Urban Solutions practice while advising governments and infrastructure authorities on the delivery of some of the region’s most complex rail, transport, and urban infrastructure programmes.

Based in Johannesburg (preferably) or Cape Town, this Director-level position offers a salary of R2.5M.

You will join their Urban Solutions practice, working with governments and public sector organisations to deliver large-scale infrastructure programmes across rail, roads, transport, and urban development.

The team sits at the centre of infrastructure strategy, programme governance, and delivery advisory, helping clients structure, fund, and deliver major infrastructure initiatives.

With infrastructure investment accelerating across South Africa, Africa, and the Middle East, the firm is expanding its programme management advisory capability. This role will play a key leadership role in building and scaling that capability while advising on major infrastructure programmes across the region.

ROLE

As Director of Programme Management, you will play a key role in building and scaling the Urban Solutions practice while playing a key role in the delivery of major public sector infrastructure programmes across rail, roads, and municipal development, with budgets in excess of R1bn.

You will advise clients on complex infrastructure programmes involving multiple stakeholders, significant capital investment, and challenging delivery environments.

The role focuses on establishing and growing a programme management advisory capability within the infrastructure sector, supporting clients with programme governance, implementation advisory, and delivery assurance on large-scale initiatives.

Working closely with public sector and infrastructure clients, you will help design effective programme structures, governance models, and delivery approaches to support successful infrastructure delivery.

You will also contribute to the growth of the practice by developing programme delivery capabilities, leading complex client engagements, and supporting large-scale advisory opportunities.

REQUIREMENTS

15 years’ experience in infrastructure programme management
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Project Management, Business Administration, or a related discipline (Master’s degree is preferable)
Professional certification such as PMP, PgMP, or equivalent programme management accreditation
Proven experience delivering large-scale infrastructure programmes
Experience across transport infrastructure (rail, roads, public transport), urban development, or municipal infrastructure programmes
Experience advising on or delivering infrastructure through alternate delivery models, including PPP or other private sector participation frameworks
Proven experience working within complex stakeholder environments and managing multi-party infrastructure programmes
Experience establishing or leading Programme Management Offices (PMOs) for large programmes
Exposure to infrastructure projects across Africa or other international markets would be advantageous
